New challenges for tourism and design at Cortina d’Ampezzo

Strategies and visions from stakeholders for post-Covid revitalization and major events.

“Welcome to Cortina” (last September 21 and 22) was a crucial appointment to discuss ideas, projects, visions and investments in the tourism sector in view of the major international events to be held in Italy in the coming years.

In this series of meetings dedicated industry stakeholders and the path to these major events, we listened to the many opportunities for renewal and development of the area, not only for the hotellerie, but for all tourism operators.

Providing impeccable hospitality is the basis for preparing for and welcoming tourists from all over the world. Hence, the need to reinvent and redefine the tourism experience in the mountains, with a special focus on sustainability, inclusiveness, and design accessible to all.

Significant investment in the hotel sector and a focus on diversifying tourism offerings are seen as key to attracting a wider international audience and ensuring the long-term success of tourism in the region.

Key themes emerged:

• Need to go beyond seasonal and snow tourism, creating a diversified offer (sports, culture, food and wine, etc.) to attract international tourists.
• Investment in receptivity and inclusive design in view of major upcoming international events, to create a standard of excellence.
• Enhancement of the entire Belluno and regional territory, not just Cortina, with a shared territorial identity.
• Challenge of making sports and accommodation facilities accessible to all by promoting inclusive tourism.
