The light that gives hope

In particular in the darkest countries, it is a fundamental tool for improving life.

Finland, Denmark and Norway are the three countries in which life is the best in the world, according to the World Happiness Report. Three countries of northern Europe that not by chance given importance and space to light in their environment.

Due to their geographical position they are almost forced to do so, in some period of the year, the days are mostly dark and the winters are very long. The light is used as a wellness tool, that’s why these countries are the happiest.

Due to the long darkness period, a lot of light is used in the northern countries of Europe.

A light also alternative to the artificial one which, with its side effects, causes stress to an organism, such as the human one, which would prefer natural sunlight (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

Light is not just lighting, it is an environmental issue, what makes you feel good in that place. Scandinavian architecture itself is designed for people, the atmosphere is as important as functionality and aesthetics.

So the light is also that of candles, able of warming the atmosphere and making it intimate and welcoming, and that is why they are even lit in offices and schools.

Indirect light is also widly used, with lamps that hide the light source and allow only a certain amount of light to filter throught. They do not dazzle and throw a pleasant shadow on object.

The architecture than does the rest, as in Denmark, where glass surfaces are used a lot in buildings, both to allow as much natural light as possible to penetrate inside and for the microclimate.

The primacy in the ranking of happiness depends above all on lifestyle, on the right balance between life and work, on satisfaction with how one’s personal path goes. In this process, light contributes and affects the quality of life.
